Politics has always been a love of John’s beginning with heated dinner table arguments as a teen with his “left” leaning family to obtaining a degree in Political Science and working for the Wyoming Republican Party and Congresswoman Barbara Cubin. In 1995, he shifted gears and went to work for Morey Group, a market research firm founded in 1985 by his father, Mike Morey. He’s been there ever since. Though serving his political interests in an official capacity ended, his love of politics did not.
Morey Group has been successfully involved in a variety of campaigns ranging from school board elections to mill levy and issue oriented campaigns. His recent experience conducting side-by-side (telephone vs. internet) surveys in the Wisconsin 2012 Presidential, Senatorial, and Congressional elections assured him that the Morey Group’s methodologies are not only sound, but accurate, predicting each election within 1.2% (many other political polling firms, due to “old-school” survey methodology and failed voter turn-out models cannot say the same).
In 2012, realizing the synergies inherent in survey research, political polling, and voter contact programs, The Lukens Company acquired the Morey Group. John and Seth Colton work together on combining Morey Group’s political polling and consulting services with The Lukens Company’s implementation services.
John has the unique experience of living approximately 1/3 of his life in 3 different areas; Los Angeles, Jackson Hole, and now in Charleston, SC. As a result, he enjoys virtually all outdoor activities and sports particularly fly-fishing, golf, and surfing, though he also loves Tough Mudders and Spartan Races. He has three young daughters and his wife, Carrie owns Callie’s Charleston Biscuits.
