With constantly evolving COVID-19 developments, there is a LOT of misinformation out there as people are adapting to new routines and dealing with rising anxiety. It’s therefore of critical importance for people to have trustworthy facts about how to protect themselves from coronavirus and what the federal government is doing to help navigate this crisis.

Given that traditional forms of communications like district office hours, town hall meetings, and constituent group visits are being disrupted, we encourage you to take advantage of franked texting to reach your constituents directly with the timely, relevant information they need from your office.

Franked texting allows you to distribute your messages widely and give information on resources, medical updates, community safety, and more to as many constituents as possible, as often as you deem necessary. Contact lists can be curated and screened to avoid landlines, duplicates, and bad numbers. Additionally, messages can be customized in the most impactful format for you, whether that be a written text message, infographic, or video. With 95% of texts being read within three minutes of sending, you can be sure that your message is being heard by your constituents.

This is a new service for many congressional offices, and in an effort to allow you to conserve manpower to respond to your constituents, we have coordinated with House Administration to compile a list of fast facts to help you get your franked texting program underway.

  • There is no special approval process or preauthorization requirement for COVID-19 communications—normal franking procedures apply. The photo above is an approved example that has been sent out.

  • Your office may be eligible to use remaining funds from your 2019 franking budget to communicate with your constituents specifically regarding COVID-19. Check with House Administration to see if you have any eligible leftover funds today.

  • Offices experiencing a primary election franking blackout are permitted to send updates on COVID-19 via franked texts and digital communications. Even if your primary date has been postponed, texting is a great way to let your constituents know that they can count on your office for critical information during this pandemic.

  • “Opt-in” communications are never excluded during blackout periods. Constituents who subscribe to receive COVID-19 updates may receive future mass communications like texts or emails during future blackout periods as members of your overall subscriber list.

  • Once approved by the Franking Commission, franked texts can be sent out. And TLC Political has the capability to do so within hours of approval.

Although we need to impose physical distance between ourselves, we must at the same time be more closely connected than ever so people get the information, medical treatment, and social support needed during this unprecedented challenge.

We are all figuring out how to make things work in this new environment, and we’re confident that we can have success together. For more information or to get your franked texting program started today, contact us at franking@thelukenscompany.com.
